Pall Mall, a premium, customised men’s tailoring brand specialising in ethnic menswear, has its flagship store in the Mall of India, Noida. This store is a design exercise in retail architecture, demonstrating how spatial limitations can become design innovations. The 900-square-foot store merges British-inspired aesthetics with high-end fashion.

The irregular floor plan changed the approach to view it as a catalyst for challenging, albeit creative space-making. Through the interplay of reflective surfaces and calculated sight lines, the design creates a perceived sense of spaciousness.

The store is divided into two primary zones: a fabric section where customers can browse premium fabrics and ready-to-wear garments, and an ethnic customisation area focused on bespoke ethnic wear. While the sections are separate, a sense of cohesiveness is maintained throughout.

Drawing inspiration from British architectural heritage, the store’s aesthetic begins with the flooring—evident in its colour palette and material selections. The flooring features a distinctive herringbone wooden pattern, immediately setting a tone of sophistication and timeless elegance. The pattern also serves as the primary organising element, grounding the entire composition.

The material palette exhibits restraint and sophistication in its diverse blend of textures and finishes, enhancing the brand’s premium positioning. There is a sense of carefulness in the material hierarchy. Leather upholstery provides tactile richness, while a considered mix of wood, stone, and metal reinforces the brand’s premium image.

The lighting design operates on multiple levels. Ambient illumination is calibrated with focused product lighting, while the translucent properties of the alabaster shelving create subtle gradients throughout the space. This layered approach ensures optimal product presentation while maintaining atmospheric consistency.

One of the most striking design features is the innovative rack system. Cantilevered racks, executed in PVD-coated stainless steel with a matte gold finish, appear to float within the space. This is complemented by a peripheral rail system that enables staff access via an integrated ladder mechanism—a practical solution that maintains the space’s visual integrity while maximising vertical merchandising opportunities.

The store features two types of mirrors—mobile and fixed—both of which play crucial roles in the design. While the fixed mirrors add to the illusion of depth, the mobile mirrors mounted on the peripheral rail system allow customers to view garments from multiple angles, anywhere in the store. With flexible positioning throughout the space, these mirrors enhance the customer’s shopping experience.

The material integration, customer-focused planning, and architectural solutions to transform a challenging space create a design-forward retail environment that balances functional efficiency and aesthetic appeal. The result is a space in Pall Mall, Noida, that provides an elevated shopping experience for customers and reinforces the brand’s position.
